Position Objective:

The main objective of the Lab Technician position is to support science teachers and students by maximizing the use of lab time for learning, ensuring the safe use of equipment, and facilitating accurate recording of experiment results. Additionally, the technician will inform the academic direction about the need to purchase or repair equipment.

Responsibilities:

Lab Management:

• Collaborate with science teachers to coordinate timetables, equipment needs, and work plans.
• Test experiments, prepare equipment, and set up chemicals before classes.
• Maintain and clean equipment, ensuring proper storage of chemicals and materials.
• Assist teachers during classes and laboratory sessions.
• Support individual students with research projects, especially science-focused extended essays.
• Assist in preparing the annual science department budget.
• Ensure that health and safety procedures are correctly followed.
• Assist the chemical regent with risk assessments.
• Manage teacher budgets for consumables.
• Collaborate with the college’s maintenance and finance departments.
• Maintain and organize records of student lab usage, methods, and results.
• Manage and track equipment loans to students and teachers.
• Keep inventory up to date and communicate any issues promptly.
• Calibrate lab equipment and coordinate external calibration services when necessary.
• Request quotes for lab supplies and coordinate deliveries with suppliers.
• Handle reimbursement processes for student-purchased supplies.
• Assist students with experiments and provide guidance on equipment usage.
• Provide training on lab equipment and safety protocols to teachers and students.

Requirements:

Formal Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Lab Technology, or Biology.

Professional Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with teenagers in an educational setting.
• At least 1 year of experience as a chemical analyst.

Languages:

• Advanced proficiency in English B2+ and Spanish.
