The Opportunity
The Manager, Social Enterprise Operations may be responsible for the daily oversight of multiple transitional work crews as well as crew operations including staff supervision / development, compliance, recruitment, training, data collection, and participant management. They often provide direct management, performance management, coaching, and/or support to Site Supervisors within a local office, fostering effective leadership and mentorship to our participants on our local crews.
This position may also manage crew operations, including maintaining tools and equipment, coordinating with Fleet Management, overseeing all administrative paperwork and invoicing for crew contracts, and maintaining quality crews in partnership with Site Directors and transitional work crew customers. In some locations, the Manager is also required to serve on crew.

Who We Are
The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people recently released from incarceration. Across the United States, 8,000-9,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.
What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.
Who You Are
- You have 3+ years of experience leading and supporting diverse, high-performing teams to achieve outcomes through coaching, training, and development
- You have experience in general labor, construction, landscaping or grounds-keeping, maintenance, or other skilled trades; experience operating site equipment, including 15-passenger vans with trailers attached (preferred)
- You have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a DOT physical, and have a reliable vehicle will be needed
- You’ve demonstrated dedication to and feel personally responsible for achieving personal, team and organizational goals through time management, data analysis, focused communications and teamwork, and continuous learning
- You’re able to adhere to organizational structures and processes to ensure safety and team production of consistently strong work products that meet customer needs
- You’re able to identify and anticipate problems, analyze problems, identify potential solutions, and decide on and implement a course of action (you’re also able to coach others to do the same)
- You build rapport and collaborate with colleagues and external partners, maintaining a network of resources that support your work
- You work effectively under pressure and at a sustained pace, managing to partner expectations while maintaining focus on objectives despite setbacks or opposition
- You’re a strong communicator, able to adapt and tailor your communication style to meet the needs of and influence varying constituents
- You have a C27 Landscaping License (highly preferred)
- You have the ability to adhere to processes to ensure safety and production of consistently strong work products that meet customer needs
- You have the ability to identify, anticipate, and analyze potential problems and solutions, and decide on and implement a course of action
- You have the ability to build rapport and collaborate with colleagues and external partners, and maintain a network of resources that support your work
- You have the ability to work effectively under pressure and at a sustained pace, managing partner expectations while maintaining focus on objectives despite setbacks or opposition
- You have the ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities from different teams and partners; you can prioritize effectively and can communicate why and how you prioritize
- You are comfortable with technology, including Google Suite, Salesforce, and have the ability to navigate computer programs to schedule and track progress for participants
Major Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the Manager, Social Enterprise may include but are not limited to:
People and Performance Management
- This position directly manages Site Supervisors, monitor and evaluate the job performance of Site Supervisors while providing individualized instruction, training, coaching and feedback to ensure performance improvement and productivity
- Build environment of collaboration, disciplined pursuit of goals, and team goodwill by fostering communication, cooperation and celebration across Site Supervisors and multiple crews
- Oversight and administration of work assignments, ensuring assignments are completed in a timely manner and with quality
- Evaluate crew effectiveness and recommend plans for improvement on an ongoing basis
- Manage the recording and tracking of all crew data
- Ensure adherence to CEO policies and procedures (inclusive of all policies related to safety, compliance, insurance, etc).
- Lead recruitment, hiring and training of Site Supervisors
- Manage the completion, tracking, and continuous development of all required trainings (onboarding, partner required, quarterly, and CEO required)
Crew Operations
- Serve as a liaison between CEO and worksite partners/customers, CEO’s participant scheduling department, vocational staff, and other CEO staff
- Keep an open and constant line of communication with Program Leadership and/or other appropriate team members as it relates to crew operations and success
- Ensure crew operations promote safety of team members and passersby
- Track and monitor supply inventory and program resources for work crews and assist Program Leadership in managing crew needs and assessing the condition of all equipment for work site readiness and strict compliance to agency and funder requirements
- Partner with management to implement strategic plans for work crew process improvement and efficiencies
- Attends partner meetings as needed.
- Monitor crew attendance and ensure sites are adequately filled
- Additional responsibilities as assigned, including running crews as a substitute Site Supervisor when additional coverage is needed
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $73,000-81,250/annually. This is an exempt position. In an effort to be both equitable and transparent, CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, experience, internal equity, and home office location in making a final determination on our salary offer.
